Narry-Joy Narapan Ngamying
Author | Restaurateur | Singer | Vipassana practitioner
Narry-Joy Narapan Ngamying grew up on the outskirts of Bangkok, where she was running the family water business by the age of ten and singing in cafés and hotel lobbies by thirteen. Chosen from more than three thousand applicants, she flew the Asian routes for a major American airline before following love to Canada in 1991. She founded an English-language school in Thailand, trained in social work at Sheridan College and the University of Toronto, and built one of Collingwood, Ontario’s best-known Thai restaurants, which she has run for more than twenty years.
Narry first sat in silence at a forest temple in Thailand in 2007 and has practised Vipassana ever since, completing ten-, twenty-, and thirty-day courses through the Ontario Vipassana Centre and Dhamma Suttama. A lifelong singer and guitarist, she still plays for her guests between lunch shifts. She has two daughters and lives with her husband near Collingwood, Ontario. INWARDS is her first book.
